The Valentini family estate lies at Loreto Aprutino in Abruzzo, where Francesco Paolo Valentini now works alongside his son Gabriele. The vineyards are farmed naturally, and only a small fraction of each harvest is bottled under the family label. Antonio Galloni of Vinous places the estate among Italy's top dozen, alongside Gaja, Giacosa and Quintarelli.
The Trebbiano d'Abruzzo is the wine on which that standing rests, and it has few equals among Italian whites. Made from Trebbiano Abruzzese, it is reductive when young and is better for decanting, and it ages for decades. The family releases only what it judges true to its traditional style: no Valentini Montepulciano has been bottled since 2015.
