Croix de Brully

Cote Chalonnaise to Cote de Nuits, Burgundy

Vinco is the exclusive United Kingdom agent for Domaine La Croix de Brully.

A patchwork domaine rather than a single estate: fourteen hectares gathered plot by plot since 1992, running from the Cote Chalonnaise up into the Cote de Nuits. The average vine is around fifty years old, everything is estate grown, and the quantities are small enough that most of Burgundy has not heard of it. That is the opportunity.

Under the radar

Fourteen hectares sounds like a domaine. It is really a collection of small plots, assembled patiently from 1992 onwards and spread across a long stretch of the Cote. That spread is unusual, and it means the range covers more ground than a single village domaine ever could, at prices that have not yet caught up with the quality in the glass.

Old vines, worked properly

Eight hectares of Pinot Noir and six of Chardonnay, with an average vine age of around fifty years. Old vines are the whole argument here: lower yields, deeper roots and fruit with the concentration to carry a wine without help in the cellar. Everything is made from estate grown grapes, which for a domaine of this size is a decision rather than a convenience.

Patience over manipulation

The approach in the vineyard is sustainable and deliberately unhurried, aimed at letting each plot say something different rather than pressing the range into one house style. In the cellar the same instinct applies. The wines are made to show terroir and varietal character honestly, and they are not hurried into bottle.

Allocation

Quantities are genuinely small and the range moves plot by plot rather than in large parcels. Tell me which end of the Cote interests you and I will tell you what has arrived.
