What the critics say

I have only had one encounter with the 1955 Ducru-Beaucaillou, poured blind by Bruno Borie over lunch. Very tertiary and earthy on the nose, it responds to aeration and delivers wild mint and black truffle scents. Quite rustic. The palate is medium-bodied and harmonious, a little coarse in terms of tannins with black fruit, tobacco and a splash of soy on the finish. It improves in the glass. I wonder, given its lofty reputation, whether this particular example had a slight cork taint? Ergo, the question mark against my score.
