What the critics say
89 VMVinous, Stephen Tanzer, 01-01-2003
(from a single parcel of 30-year-old vines in Les Murets, which is typically a white wine terroir) Bright medium ruby. Inky, slightly medicinal aromas of black cherry, violet, menthol and new oak, with hints of smoke and tomato. Dense, rich and peppery; a fairly fat style of Hermitage, without the structure of a top year. In fact, this seems rounder and a bit less vibrant today than the Louis Belle, which is rather powerful in the context of the 2000 vintage. Belle says this Hermitage has not yet closed up in the bottle, but that it will.
