What the critics say
95 VMVinous, Neal Martin, 23-12-2024
The 1945 Cos d’Estournel is the first Bordeaux that I have ever tasted from this legendary vintage. It looks like its age, sporting a wide tawny rim, though the core is quite deep and clear. The bouquet is still fresh with just a hint of eucalyptus emerging with time. The palate is rounded in texture, still vigorous with a slight seaweed note. It remains very elegant although, a little dryness towards the finish suggests that it might be broaching the end of what has been a very long drinking plateau. This is a marvelous Cos d’Estournel and attests the greatness of the fabled 1945 vintage. Tasted from my own bottle at home.
