What the critics say

98 VMVinous, Neal Martin, 25-03-2025

The 1964 Trotanoy fulfills all my expectations and then some. It has an extremely intense, billowing bouquet with dark plum, dark cherry and eucalyptus aromas. There is a sense of extravagance, but it is not showy and retains stupendous delineation as it slips through the gears. The palate is incredibly youthful and vigorous with scintillating brambly black fruit, melted tar, mint and dark chocolate notes. This is extraordinarily complex and delivers a smooth, rounded finish that lacquers the mouth. This is among the greatest Right Banks of 1964. Taken from the Pomerol book authored by Neal Martin.

Drink 2019 to 2030

90 WAWine Advocate, Robert Parker, 01-01-1998

This is an impressively big, deep, darkly colored Trotanoy with only a trace of amber at the edge. The wine has outstanding ripeness and concentration, with an almost port-like viscosity to its texture. The slight bitterness that I mentioned in the first edition of this book has not been a problem the last two times I tasted this wine. It is clearly an outstanding effort from Trotanoy in 1964. Fully mature, given its size and concentration, it should continue to drink well for at least another decade. Anticipated maturity: Now-2002. Last tasted, 11/90.
