What the critics say

92 VMVinous, Neal Martin, 01-10-2023

The 1923 Siran, a year that is rarely seen, despite this being my second bottle within two months! It has a deeper color than coeval Twenties vintages. Deep and sensual, this is an arresting bouquet that must have been a once concentrated nose, now faded with mulberry, musk and touches of cola. Maybe it feels just a tad monochrome compared to others. The palate is medium-bodied with impressive depth on the entry. There is real weight here, more than the 1921 and 1922, with notes of red fruit, tobacco, black pepper and meat juices. There might be some brettanomyces here, but at this age, it seems moot. Despite this centurion being a bit feral and animally, it is surprisingly pleasurable Margaux that dares meliorate in the glass. Tasted at the Siran Twenties vertical at the château.
