What the critics say

90 VMVinous, Neal Martin, 31-08-2022

The 1950 Pichon Baron has a musty nose that lacks the clarity of the 1947 and 1949. Leather, mothballs and a touch of mushroom, though underneath there is some decent fruit, though not the concentration of the aforesaid vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with a surprisingly sprightly entry thanks to the acidity. It feels rather hollow on the mid-palate, but again, this transformed magically in the glass, revealing hidden tension and vigour, with satisfying precision and brightness on the finish. Tasted at the Pichon Baron Ancienne Millésime tasting.
