What the critics say
100 VMVinous, Neal Martin, 07-02-2024
The 1900 Latour is majestic, regal First Growth undiminished by age. Simply nosing this bottle, you are instantaneously whisked not just to Bordeaux or Pauillac but directly to Château Latour itself. Not an atom of its DNA has been lost throughout the passing decades. Deep in color, it has a stentorian bouquet with wonderful definition, layers of black fruit tinged with menthol and pinecones, and, later, hints of pencil box. Its firm tannic spine underpins this multi-dimensional Latour blessed with perfect acidity, amazing focus and a breath-taking sense of harmony. Predominantly black fruit laced with cedar and just a hint of brine, there is a crescendo towards its grippy, amazingly fresh finish that exudes precision and commands your attention. The 1900 Latour enjoys a legendary reputation. Now, I do not have to understand vicariously why. Tasted at Arbor restaurant in Hong Kong.

Surprisingly alive, but firm, foursquare, and monolithic, this dark amber/ruby-colored Latour is reticent, but vigorous and concentrated. There is noticeable acidity as well as smoky, mineral, tobacco, and herb aromas, good depth, but not much charm or sweetness. It will continue to age for 15-20 years.
