What the critics say
87 VMVinous, Neal Martin, 01-07-2018
The 1902 Lafite-Rothschild is a pleasant surprise given the unenviable reputation of the vintage. Deep tawny in colour, commensurate with age, the 1902 has a fragrant bouquet, with scents of hot bricks intermingling with spice and leather. The palate remains still fresh and conspicuously sweet suggesting some chaptalization. Ultimately, the 1902 lacks complexity of other venerable vintages and the volatile acidity rapidly becomes stronger. Yet the bottom line is that it is still (just about) palatable. Of course, bottles will vary from one to another. Tasted at the Lafite-Rothschild vertical in London.
