What the critics say
95 VMVinous, Neal Martin, 01-11-2020
The 1959 La Conseillante far surpassed the bottle opened at the legendary vertical a decade ago. It has a wonderful bouquet, one that is ripe and loamy, touches of black truffle and clove, a little rustic compared to the regal VCC yet still it transfixes. The palate is medium-bodied and built around a sweet core of red fruit. Nicely structured and still with a gentle grip, there is a solid backbone to this La Conseillante and strangely comes across more like a 1961 than a 1959. It sports a gorgeous balsamic finish that completes this Pomerol that should be consumed over the next decade. Tasted at a private dinner in Bordeaux.

Tasted Once I must confess I never dreamed so many 1959 Pomerols would turn out so rich and concentrated. La Conseillante's 1959 exhibits a fragrant bouquet of flowers, black-raspberries, and smoke, medium to full body, soft tannin, and wonderful, pure, sweet, expansive fruit. It is a classic example of La Conseillante's ability to produce authoritatively rich wines of extraordinary elegance and complexity.
