What the critics say
90 VMVinous, Neal Martin, 01-05-2019
The 1953 Filhot has a beautiful bouquet with pure Clementine, dried honey, quince jelly and almost pine needle and pot pourri scents. This is so elegant and refined. The palate does not quite match the ethereal aromatics but it is still pretty good, with orange zest, mandarin, brown spices and nutmeg. There is good weight in the mouth, even after some 65 years and the length is impressive. I bet this gorgeous a decade or two ago, though now it is in decline albeit from a high point. Tasted at the vertical tasting at Château Filhot.
