What the critics say

93 VMVinous, Neal Martin, 07-07-2026

The 1966 Figeac actually outflanks the '66 Petrus when tasted blind in tandem. It has an endearing bouquet of brambly red fruit, Earl Grey tea, leather and black truffle, just a hint of eucalyptus emerging with time. It is less herbaceous than the bottle five years ago. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and good backbone. This is a classic, old-school Saint-Émilion with gentle yet insistent grip towards the Médoc-like finish thanks to its Cabernets. Superb. Well-kept bottles will still give pleasure. Tasted blind at the "Six" dinner at Domaine de Chevalier.

85 WAWine Advocate, Robert Parker, 01-01-1998

A respectable effort from Figeac, nicely made, fruity, fragrant, with scents of ripe fruit and cedarwood, this wine was fully mature when last tasted, yet has the stuffing and balance to age well. Not as big or as full bodied as either the 1964 or 1970, the 1966 is elegant and attractive. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 1/82.
