What the critics say
81 VMVinous, Neal Martin, 01-07-2018
The 1948 Climens is a bottle originally intended for the “Century of Bordeaux” article although I could not find the original note! Finally it has turned up although to be honest, it rather pales against the 1947, 1949 and 1950 vintages. Similar to the previous bottles in 2009 it has a rather oxidized bouquet, musty and earthy with fleeting glimpses of what might have once been a decent postwar Barsac. The palate is medium-bodied with a nutty, slightly enervated entry, a little ham-fisted compared to the aforementioned vintages with a volatile finish. Drink up any bottles that you might find. Tasted at a private dinner in London.
