What the critics say

87 VMVinous, Neal Martin, 11-10-2022

The 2004 Cantenac Brown is a wine that, strangely, I only ever tasted en primeur. The nose is leafy and lacking a bit of fruit, rustic compared to later vintages but not unattractive. The palate is matured with fleshy tannins, low acidity, sous-bois and tobacco defining a rather austere but pleasant finish. One for those who moan about Claret not being what it used to be. Tasted at the Cantenac Brown vertical at the château.

86 WAWine Advocate, Robert Parker, 29-06-2007

This stern, hard Margaux exhibits a nicely saturated ruby/purple color, but an absence of fruit as well as an angular personality with austere tannin suggest it will become increasingly desiccated with age. It is a far cry from the fabulous effort made by the new proprietor in 2006.
