What the critics say
89 VMVinous, Neal Martin, 01-05-2020
The 1945 Batailley has a deep color with a thin bricked rim and just a little cloudiness compared to other vintages. The bouquet is mercurial, compelling and slightly rustic, with iron rust and remnants of red fruit, gaining more clarity with time and revealing wild mint and woodbine. The palate is medium-bodied, perhaps also a little rustic, and solid, with firm, slightly dry tannin and vestiges of tertiary fruit. It just fades on the finish, so drink bottles soon if you have any remaining. Tasted at the Batailley dinner in Bordeaux.
